Welcome to the home of
Bog Myrtle Rattery and Trinovantum Stud.

BOG MYRTLE RATTERY is run by Sheena Stratton and has now moved to Doncaster, South Yorkshire but Sheena retains close ties with South Staffordshire and is in the area at least 2 days each week, so meeting ratty folks in the Midlands is no problem.

Sheena focuses on breeding marked rats (Badger, Hooded, Variegated, and Bareback) in Silver Fawn, Cinnamon, Agouti and Black. She has recently started developing a new line in Cinnamon Pearl and Pearl, and in conjunction with Nick is working on Blue Point Himalayans.

Due to the fun of breeding these varieties she will also sometimes have selfs in related colours and friendly pet quality mismarked splodgies! :-) Mainly Smooth Top Ears are bred but Dumbos and Rex also are available occasionally. With the change to the show schedule Sheena aims to work on Rex Hooded and Badger lines.

Bog Myrtle Rattery is registered with the NFRS and is working hard towards producing show winning rats and earning a stud name in the future. The rattery has already achieved Accredited Breeder Status (Reg No: 08/04) with the YRC. This was earned by achieving excellent and consistent show results at YRC shows with rats bred.

The rattery name is the translation of part of the Anglo Saxon name of the village where Sheena was born, grew up and lived until very recently. It will always be the place she thinks of as home.

The first litters were born in May 2006. Since then Sheena has become increasingly involved in the Fancy, being a Committee Member of Yorkshire Rat Club (YRC) and a member of National Fancy Rat Society (NFRS), Midland Rat Club (MRC), Scottish Rat Club (SRC), London and Southern Counties Mouse and Rat Club (LSCMRC) and Fancy Rat Enthusiasts Club (FREC). She is also a member of the National Mouse Club and hopes to expand her interest in breeding and showing Fancy Mice in the future.

Sheena qualified as a NFRS Show Judge in December 2008, an achievement she is very proud of. The breeding programme took a bit of back seat during the judge training, but now things are fully focused on developing rats of show quality and hopefully good enough to win at shows and earn Stars towards becoming champions.

Bog Myrtle Shiva (Cinnamon Pearl) won Best in Show, Best AOV and in Stud Buck at LSCMRC show in Enfield on 07/11/09 aged 15 weeks and 5 days. Many thanks to judge Doug Connor for his lovely comments on Shiva.

TRINOVANTUM STUD is based in Doncaster, South Yorkshire and run by Nick Mays. Nick has been keeping, breeding and exhibiting rats for over 30 years and has written several books and articles about Fancy Rats.

Nick breeds Silver Fawns, Ivories and Champagnes. After a break of many years he is also now concentrating in breeding quality Himalayans in both Smooth and Rex coats and both eye colours.

Nick has a long association with the Rat Fancy and is a Life member of the NFRS and the YRC. He is currently Hon. Secretary of the YRC and a member of MRC, SRC, LSCMRC and FREC. Nick is also a member of the National Mouse Club.

Nick is a NFRS Championship Judge.
